SJ uses cookies

What are cookies?

SJ uses cookies on its websites. A cookie is a small data file with text which is saved in your Internet browser. There are two types of cookies, permanent and temporary ("session cookies"). Permanent cookies are stored as files on your computer or mobile phone for a certain time until you delete them or the server which sent them deletes them. Session cookies are stored temporarily and disappear when you shut your browser.

How we use cookies

We use cookies so that we are able to give you, the visitor, better service. Some cookies are used to gather statistics on the number of visitors to the websites, while others are used to obtain information about which, and which versions of, operating systems and browsers visitors use, how our websites are used and how we can improve them, which pages are more and less popular, and so on. This information makes it possible for us to develop and optimise our websites.

We use something known as a "session id" for some functions on and, such as for the shopping process. In order to enable this, our server sends your computer a session cookie with a unique ID number each time you visit one of these websites.

Session cookies are used during the time you are active on the website. Without them you could not, for example, go back a step in the shopping process without needing to fill in all of the information again each time.  A session cookie is only saved temporarily in your computer's primary storage and is automatically removed when you close your browser.

If you do not want to allow cookies to be used

There is common misconception that cookies are a sort of virus and that with the help of cookies, websites can find out personal information from your computer, or that cookies exist to make it possible to send spam. None of this is true – cookies are simply data.

Most browsers default to allow storage of cookies. If you do not want to accept cookies, you can either set your browser so that you receive a warning each time a website wants to place a cookie on your computer or you can completely disable storage of cookies. You can find information about how to do this in your browser's help function. If you choose to disallow cookies, SJ's websites will not work as well as you, as a user, expect.
